Last month, we opened the studio doors and took over our parking lot to welcome our friends, family, and East Austin neighbors. We enjoyed having guests in our world, giving them a taste of what we do here in the studio, and celebrating our fellow artisans and small-business owners.
We had music by The Nether Hour and Live Oak Trio. Guests were treated to a menu of quinoa sticky rice, seasonal slaw, crispy shallots, cauliflower curry, tofu teriyaki, Japanese pumpkin and potato salad, tomato salad with ginger dressing, cornbread, and chocolate chip cookies from our neighbors down the street, Bento Picnic.
Chris demonstrated the ancient technique of Mokume-gane, fusing a silver and copper Mokume billet. If you haven’t seen this Japanese woodgrain metal technique in person, it is a special treat. Here’s an article about the Mokume-gane process, if you are interested!
Missed our open house? Mark your calendars for EAST 2018. It’s two weekends of self-guided art happening Nov. 10-11th & Nov. 18-19th. Our studio doors will be open both weekends – come by and say hi!
